Speaker: Professor Jinsong Yang, PhD Supervisor

West China School of Pharmacy, Sichuan University

Lecture Time: 10:00 AM, 19 September 2025

Location: Lecture Hall, 2nd Floor, Building 6, Zhangjiang Campus

Host: Associate Professor Feng Zhu

Abstract:

The speaker has long been dedicated to the development of key glycosylation methodologies and the synthesis of biologically active complex natural glycosides and bacterial surface glycoconjugate antigens. He has pioneered a quinoline-2-carbonyl-directed hydrogen-bond-mediated glycosylation strategy and developed a novel stereoselective approach for constructing the glycosidic bonds of 3-deoxy-D-manno-oct-2-ulosonic acid (Kdo), a key component of bacterial polysaccharides. In this lecture, he will share his experience and insights in the development and application of synthetic carbohydrate methods.

Brief introduction:

Jinsong Yang is a Professor and PhD Supervisor at the West China School of Pharmacy, Sichuan University. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Sichuan University in 1992 and his Master’s degree from Nankai University in 1995. He completed his PhD at West China University of Medical Sciences in 1998 and conducted postdoctoral research at Toho University, Japan from 1998 to 1999. Since 2000, he has served at the West China School of Pharmacy, Sichuan University, as Lecturer, Associate Professor, Professor, and Head of the Department of Natural Medicines.

He is a member of the Chinese Chemical Society Carbohydrate Chemistry Professional Committee and the China Vaccine Industry Association Glycoconjugate Vaccine Committee.
