Abstract

Chiral silicon-containing compounds are increasingly vital in biomedicine, functional materials, and fine chemical synthesis. As nature provides no native organosilicon compounds, developing efficient methods to construct silicon-centered chirality has become a significant yet challenging frontier. Our research tackles key scientific questions in silicon-stereogenic functional molecule synthesis, focusing on reaction efficiency, stereoselectivity control, and structure-function relationships. We've developed innovative strategies for constructing silicon-chiral compounds through hydrosilylation approaches and C-H activation methods, enabling access to chiral monohydrosilanes, silanols, and spirosilacycles. Importantly, we pioneered the design of novel spirosilicon-based chiral ligands and catalysts, which exhibit unique rigidity and wide-angle coordination geometries, showing exceptional promise in asymmetric catalysis applications.

Brief Introduction

Prof. Peng Wang obtained his B.Sc. from Tianjin University in 2007 and Ph.D. from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC) in 2013 under the supervision of Prof. Yong Tang. He conducted postdoctoral research at Scripps Research in the U.S. with Prof. Jin-Quan Yu before joining SIOC in early 2018. His research focuses on transition-metal catalysis and main-group element chemistry. Prof. Wang was selected for the CAS Hundred Talents Program in 2017 and the National High-Level Young Talent Program in 2018. He received funding from Shanghai Rising-Star Program in 2020 and was honored as Shanghai Outstanding Academic Leader in 2023. His awards include the Thieme Chemistry Journals Award (2020) and Shanghai May 4th Youth Medal (Science & Technology System, 2022). With over 40 corresponding-author publications in prestigious journals including Chem, JACS, Angewandte, and Nature Communications, his work has been cited more than 3000 times. He holds 11 Chinese patents (8 granted) and serves on editorial boards for Eur. J. Org. Chem. (2023-present), National Science Open (Chemistry, 2024-2025), and Acta Chimica Sinica (2024-2026).
