1. Introduction to the Frontier Science Center

The Frontier Science Center for Transformative Molecules (FSCTM) is a world-class physical research institution approved by the Ministry of Education and established by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Located in the Zhangjiang Science Park in Shanghai, it is an integral part of the "Zhangjiang Comprehensive National Science Center." The center aims to actively integrate Shanghai Jiao Tong University's research strengths in transformative molecules and sincerely invites global talents in molecular science to jointly build a research platform and talent cultivation hub with global influence. Guided by national strategic needs, the FSCTM focuses on enhancing independent innovation capabilities, leveraging interdisciplinary collaboration, and advancing cutting-edge research in molecular science. Its primary missions include conducting major national research projects in molecular science and transformation research, as well as engaging in high-level substantive international cooperation. The center strives to become an academic highland with international "leading" status in the field of molecular science.

2. Recruitment Fields

The Frontier Science Center for Transformative Molecules focuses on the core scientific issues of selective activation, cleavage, controllable recombination, and molecular assembly of chemical bonds. Supported by ultrafast in situ characterization technologies, the center's research main lines include the creation of transformative small molecules, macromolecules, and supramolecules. Breakthroughs are sought in the development of small molecule drugs, precision synthesis of functional macromolecules, and cell robot assembly. The center aims to address "from 0 to 1" scientific problems, promote major technological innovations, form several research directions and major achievements that lead the development of molecular science, and support China's scientific and technological progress and socio-economic development.

2.1 Ultrafast In Situ Characterization Technology

(1) Fields include but are not limited to ultrafast in situ microscopy and ultrafast in situ spectroscopy;

(2) Focus on ultrafast analysis of chemical bond cleavage and formation, and in situ characterization of molecular and assembly structures.

2.2 Transformative Small Molecules

(1) Innovative drug synthesis (total synthesis of natural drugs, novel anti-tumor and anti-viral drugs, immunosuppressants, etc.);

(2) Transformative efficient catalytic systems (novel green chiral catalysts, electrocatalysis, photocatalysis);

(3) High-throughput organic synthesis and molecular screening;

(4) Exploration and application of transformative chemical reaction mechanisms (efficient construction of C-S bonds, conversion synthesis of C-H bonds).

2.3 Transformative Macromolecules

(1) New theories and methods for precise and controllable synthesis of macromolecules;

(2) Preparation and application of high-performance, intelligently responsive macromolecules (flame retardancy, optoelectronics, anti-fouling, anti-icing, anti-counterfeiting, biomimetics, drug delivery, smart wearables, AI remote control, etc.);

(3) Structural analysis, theoretical calculation, and functional exploration of biological macromolecules (DNA, nucleic acid sequences, glycoproteins).

2.4 Transformative Supramolecules

(1) Research on biomimetic self-assembly behavior and functional applications;

(2) Research on intracellular self-assembly, gene circuits, cell robots, and other fields;

(3) Design and functional application of transformative supramolecular materials (functional gels, microporous assemblies, interfacial functional materials, supramolecular hybrid optoelectronic materials, etc.).

3. Appointment Positions and Conditions

The center recruits outstanding senior and young talents from home and abroad, offering corresponding appointment positions according to the university's standards. The requirements for each level are as follows:

Associate Researcher/Associate Professor

Tenure-track fixed-term position (each term is generally three years). Applicants must hold a doctoral degree and have at least three years of post-doctoral research experience in the field. They should have independently achieved significant research results, demonstrated the potential to become academic leaders in their field, and possess the qualifications and ability to independently apply for research grants, lead research projects, guide research team members, and supervise doctoral students. They must meet the academic level of assistant professors or similar positions at world-class universities. Those appointed as associate professors must have teaching capabilities and undertake teaching duties as required by the university.

Researcher/Professor

Tenure-track fixed-term position (each term is generally three years). Applicants should have achieved internationally recognized significant results in their research field, enjoy a certain reputation and academic influence, have experience in leading important research projects and competitiveness in funding applications, and have sufficient experience in supervising doctoral students, postdocs, and managing research teams. They must meet the qualifications for appointment as senior professional technical personnel at the university. Those appointed as professors must have the ability to teach undergraduate courses and undertake teaching duties as required by the university.

Principal Investigator/Tenured Professor

Tenured position (contract until legal retirement age). Applicants should have made unique, original, and significant contributions to their research field, widely recognized by domestic and international peers, and contributed to the enrichment and development of the discipline's knowledge system. They should enjoy considerable international reputation and academic influence, be able to lead researchers from different disciplinary backgrounds in interdisciplinary collaborative research, have experience in leading important research projects and the ability to secure long-term funding, and have achieved good results in supervising doctoral students, postdocs, and cultivating young talents. They must meet the appointment requirements for principal investigators or tenured professors at the university. Those appointed as tenured professors must be competent in teaching undergraduate courses and undertake teaching duties as required by the university.

Academic Honorary Positions

For top talents who have made systematic, groundbreaking, and outstanding contributions in their academic fields, achieved distinguished accomplishments, and reached the level of specially appointed professors or chair professors in the university's academic honor system, the frontier center will recommend them to the university based on their specific contributions and achievements.
